What makes this organisation a social enterprise?

Restaurant Het Ambacht strives to strike a balance between good food and social responsibility. In other words, to live and work in harmony with the environment. Het Ambacht operates in the heart of society – in terms of ingredients used and responsible social policy. The aim is focused on achieving what they call a Social Star. They introduce this term, a Social Star, to give words to the combination of culinary ambition and social responsibility. Het Ambacht is convinced that the Social Star will be picked up by other restaurants with the same ambition.

Het Ambacht focuses on adding value to the Frisian society and economy by enabling the re-integration in the worklife of young people who have become unemployed due to circumstances. These young people deserve a fair chance at the labour market, even if their start at the labour market hasn’t always been good. Restaurant Het Ambacht annually trains ten to fifteen young people with a labour limitation or disability. Het Ambacht works closely together with the municipality of Heerenveen and Friesland College and is supported by a group of 6 social involved entrepreneurs and stakeholders.
